If you search online for the best time management tip, you will probably come up with some great advice such as: Write To-do lists Use Time Blocking Wake up early Get more sleep Do the tasks you hate first Do the tasks you like first Do the hard tasks first Do the easy tasks first And many more. All these are great, but in order to choose the best one for you, you must consider some factors such as: the nature of your current job, the people around you, and of course, your personal preferences.

Here are some tips that will help you practice single tasking!

Get Things Done

Set realistic daily goals for each day and prioritize. By the end of each day, take 5 minutes to write your goals for tomorrow. This goals list should go along with your general to-do list, but with a micro focus on the tasks that you’re hoping to accomplish by the time you leave your store the next day.

Get Things Done

Know your store’s peak times and work accordingly. You wouldn’t want to schedule huge or long tasks such as organizing window display during the busy hours. Figuring out these peak times will give you a better sense of how to build your schedule.

Get Things Done

Control your attention and focus. To improve the quality of the workday, you need to limit your focus to one task at a time and actively kill all distractions. Quick Tip: Even your thoughts can be destructive. If you are doing something now, don't think about your next task. Stay present.

Get Things Done

Use your commute to recharge Your commute time is the perfect time to clean your thoughts and get ready for the day. Quick Tip: Try to listen to upbeat music that inspires you and gets your blood pumping.

Get Things Done

And once again control your distractions! If you find it too hard to kill your distractions completely, try making them work for you. One way to do it is by scheduling distractions during your breaks and using them as a reward for good work.

The Wonderful World Of Detail

Attention to Detail

Even if you are not into basketball, you probably heard the name: Steph Curry, the greatest shooter in NBA history. Curry had an endorsement deal with Nike since he entered the NBA. In 2013, when the contract was up for renewal, Steph and his father Dell, a former NBA player, gathered with the Nike team to talk about a new deal.

Attention to Detail

But something in this pitch meeting went wrong: The meeting, according to Steph’s dad, kicked off with one Nike official accidentally called Stephen “Steph-on”. Then, in the PowerPoint presentation, the team presented a slide featured Kevin Durant’s name instead of Steph’s. That moment Nike lost Steph and his father's attention.

Attention to Detail

How does the story end? A few weeks later Steph signed up with another basketball shoemaker you might have heard of – Under Armour. You may think that losing one athlete deal shouldn't be a big deal for a huge company like Nike. But back in 2013 sales of Curry's signature shoe were higher than sales of any Nike signature shoe except Jordan's. Nike lost Steph to Under Armour because of someone who missed some details.

Attention to Detail

Even if your everyday work doesn't include billion-dollar deals with NBA athletes, the retail world is full of details. Whether it is making sure the transaction was processed accurately, the right product has introduced to the right costumer, all items in the store are fully stocked, or merchandises on display are laid out correctly, there is no room for mistakes.
