Serve Outside the Church

There are many ways to get more involved with Commonwealth Baptist Church and serve the community.

Prepare and/or Serve Dinner at Carpenter’s Shelter

CBC has committed as a community to serve dinner at Carpenter’s Shelter–a homeless shelter in Alexandria–the second Wednesday of every month. CBC volunteers  purchase food items to be served and deliver it to the church or to the shelter, help prepare the meal, and assist in serving the meal and cleaning up after.

ALIVE! Food Distribution

The last Saturday of each month, members of CBC volunteer from 8:30am – 12:30pm by helping to bag and distribute groceries for those in the Alexandria area who need assistance feeding their families.

Compassion & Justice

When Jesus is asked “What is the most important commandment to follow?” he says that there are actually two: love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, and mind; and love your neighbor.

At CBC, we think that this teaching sums up the heart of Christianity in a nutshell. We strive to love God and other people with every fiber of our being. We believe that to love God most fully, we need the support, encouragement, and insights of other people who also seek to follow Jesus. At CBC we worship, practice spiritual formation, and serve together.

We are a loving Christian community that seeks peace and justice, equips ourselves and others for service, and seeks to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the greater community through radical acts of hospitality and uncommon compassion. We believe that all people are created in the image of god as beloved children of God and are called to participate in God’s redemptive plan for the world. We welcome and affirm all people in our worship and mission regardless of age, race, gender, sexual identity, economic status, or social standing. Whether you are 9 or 90, gay or straight, a committed Christian or someone curious about faith, whether you live in a mansion or on the street, you are welcome at CBC.
