Lesson 3 - Vehicle Maintenance

Vehicle Maintenance

Ignoring vehicle maintenance is like waiting for a disaster to happen.

Vehicle Maintenance

Not only will it cost you time money for repairs...

Vehicle Maintenance

It might also cost you your life -- as accidents are more likely to occur when you fail to check up on your car.

Vehicle Maintenance

Regular maintenance is key in preventing these problems from happening.

Vehicle Maintenance

Keep an eye on the oil Oil lessens the friction in your engine, acting as a lubricant that keep engine parts from rubbing against each other. Use the dip stick to see oil levels and test its quality.

Vehicle Maintenance

Pull out the dip stick and wipe it clean. Before you check, make sure the engine is cold or has been off for at least 10 minutes.

Vehicle Maintenance

Insert the stick back again.

Vehicle Maintenance

Pull the dipstick out and look at the end of the stick. Read the marks. If the oil is between the low and full marks, you’re good to go.

Vehicle Maintenance

Put the dip stick back again to the pipe and you’re done!

Vehicle Maintenance

Question: Is having more oil better?

Vehicle Maintenance

Check brakes We rely on our brake pads more than we realise. If they are thin and worn down, you may not have the stopping power that you need when it is most necessary. Look for signs of wear and get new ones when it’s time to replace them.

Vehicle Maintenance

Inspect belts and hoses A damage to your car belt or hose can result in loss of electrical charging system, loss of power steering and overheated engine. Look for any signs of damage such as serious abrasions, cracks, bends, or fraying. If you notice them, replace them sooner than later.

Vehicle Maintenance

Avoid battery corrosion Make sure battery terminals are free from corrosion. You can do this by removing the clamps and wipe away the grease, dirt and oxidation. Don’t forget to regularly check your battery water level indicator and top up as needed.
