25+ Registered Walkers, $500+ and 2.5 Miles towards Ending Homelessness!
Nearly 12, 000 people in the DC metro area do not have homes. More than 40% of homeless people are families and about 1 in 4 are children. Fannie Mae has partnered with community shelters to raise funds to assist these families. Commonwealth Baptist Church raised over $500 for ALIVE! House, which serves women and families in need of adequate shelter in Alexandria, VA. Fannie Mae offered an additional $10,000 to ALIVE! House if they were able to register 550 walkers for the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walk. To support that goal, Commonwealth Baptist Church had over 25 people registered to walk or as “virtual walkers” on behalf of ALIVE!. Saturday was a beautiful warm day and 7 church members and their 2 babies joined us for a 2.5 mile walk around the National Mall. Current ALIVE! House residents and their children joined us and several thousand other people dedicated to making a difference in the community.
Meet the Director
I am very excited about this brand new program for middle school students.
Please let me take a few seconds to introduce myself. I have a real passion for working with children. I have been tutoring math with students from 2005 to the present, and I have also been working with children teaching Sunday school for the past four years. I graduated from Campbell University with an MBA in 2006. Since graduating college I have been working in the corporate sector until realizing that my true calling is to work with students full-time by helping them be successful in school. I have learned that when tutoring students it is very important to not only create a relationship with the student, but also with the teaching staff. I believe that a team approach consisting of student, parents, teacher, and tutor is the most successful. I hope that you consider enrolling your student in this new and exciting program so that my staff and I can become a part of your team to ensure the success of your child/student.
I hope that you reach out to me with any questions you may have.
Thank you!
Toni Boswell
